The Good, The Bad, and The Bloody

Back in July, Stella had to get a tear duct probing surgery. Unfortunately, she was in the 10 percent of patients that had to get the procedure repeated, so she had it done again on Friday--this time with probing and dilation (ballooning). Jeremy requested that they didn't give her Versed this time, since she came out of anesthesia so angry last time. She didn't wake up angry, she was just upset and wanted to get out of the hospital. (I feel bad, because I kept trying to explain to her that we were going to the hospital, and she just kept saying, "Daddy-O, Daddy-O!" Poor baby thought we were just going to visit Jeremy since he was on call, and we hadn't seen him for a couple of days.)

Stella and I had to be at the hospital at 5:45 am, and we met Jeremy who was almost done with his 24 hour shift at Children's--no idea how he functions without sleep! The surgery was pretty quick, and we left the hospital right away with only a minor issue--a little vomiting of blood issue.  I'm so glad Jeremy was there, because she was choking, and it scared me! Geez, I'm a wimp!  Stella did well as soon as we got home, and was in a good mood...until the drugs wore off.
Looking a little ragged after her surgery, watching a show in Mommy's bed.
Nothing like a bubble bath to make you feel better!
Stella went down for a nap, and when she woke up she was in so much pain. She couldn't swallow at all. (We're not sure, because she wasn't intubated. But, her uvula was really swollen. Perhaps, she was already sick and the surgery just aggravated things, who knows.) Since she couldn't swallow, she just drooled all over the place. We couldn't give her food or liquid or medication.  It was so sad.  She was begging for food, but all she would do is put it in her mouth and just let it sit there. She couldn't even do popsicles or yogurt, and she would just hold her cups, but not drink anything. At this point, we were starting to get worried that we would have to take her in, just to get IV fluids, since she had very little to drink for 24 hours.

We decided to see how the night went. Jeremy gave Stella a blessing, and we put her to bed. She woke me up at 5:30 am asking for "Key-O Light" (Crystal Light). I gave her a cup, and she guzzled it, then another, and then her milk. She then ate two pieces of bread, a box of raisins, and applesauce--all before 8:00!  We were SO grateful that she could swallow again and that we had our sweet little girl back again! I'm also so grateful for a worthy husband who is able to provide our family with blessings. There is nothing worse than having sick kids, you just wish you could take their place and suffer for them.

After all of that, she is happy and healthy, and just a little bit bloody! We are glad to have it over with and hope it works this time!

She felt so much better on Saturday, and even posed for some pictures!
This is her surprised face.

Poor girl. What bad timing for a cold too. Blessings have saved us many times too! Thank goodness!

I'm glad she is feeling better and that she had her surgery done at Childrens. I spent several months there when I was five on the oncology ward. All the best. <3
